You can turn on Windows backup using the Windows Backup app or from Settings. For details how configure your backup, see Back up and restore your Windows PC.

Easy done with using the built-in windows facilities. Control Panel -> Backup and restore (Windows 7) -> System Image Backup. -> backup to you external HDD.
